Building a Portfolio of Low Carbon Projects
Held at the National Library of Scotland the objectives of the session focused on identifying carbon focus areas and establishing and quantifying the costs and benefits of projects.
The creation of a project portfolio and setting realistic achievement targets were also discussed. A key aim of the day was to inspire and enable delegates, giving them the confidence and knowledge they require to achieve success. The stimulating session used a broad range of material and utilised case studies and group exercises to engage delegates.
Participants were also given a tour of the National Library’s Plant Room by Head of Estates Jack Plumb to showcase the buildings energy saving features. The National Library itself has reduced carbon emissions and saved financially through its own carbon management plan.
The Zero Waste Scotland support programme has been running since August 2015 and is supporting 20 public sector organisations to develop effective and compliant documents by early 2016. It is anticipated that the project will leave an enduring legacy with the creation of regional carbon practitioner networks that form of a living collaborative network with the necessary skills, material and relationships to continue long after the support programme has ceased.
The third workshop in the programme will take place later this year.
