Dundee Shortlisted as one of Twelve Bidding to Become Ultra Low Emission City

The scheme is offering a share of £35 million of funding to cities that demonstrate the most potential to become internationally outstanding examples for the adoption of ultra low emission vehicles (ULEVs).

Transport Minister Baroness Kramer said of the scheme:

“This can help to transform people’s quality of life in their cities and build a stronger economy and is an important step towards our 2050 vision, when almost every car and van in the UK will be an ultra-low emission vehicle.”

Whilst Business Minister Matthew Hancock commented that:

“The government is working hand in hand with business to increase the uptake of electric vehicles across the country. This investment will improve local air quality, reduce carbon emissions, and create growth opportunities for firms who develop and manufacture this kind of technology.”

The bid managed by Urban Foresight on behalf of Dundee City Council is now being put forward to the next stage of the competitive process, with the current shortlist of 12 eventually being whittled down to 4.

Urban Foresight will continue to develop the proposal over the summer with the final selection of 2-4 cities expected in the autumn.
