Principal Economic Development Consultant  

Location: Newcastle or Dundee 

Deadline: 21st April  2023

 

We are looking for an ambitious consultant to take a leading role in growing and delivering an exciting portfolio of economic development projects in the UK and overseas.

You will work on projects covering diverse sectors and geographies. This could include business cases for innovation hubs, evaluating investment programmes, sector mapping, economic development strategies, and Just Transition Plans.

This permanent role will be based in one of our offices (Newcastle or Dundee) in line with your preferences. 

The role

We are seeking an experienced consultant to complement our existing team and develop our business further with new clients. 

As part of this role, you will:  

  • lead and manage economic development projects, including conducting research and analysis, developing strategies, and supporting investments 
  • provide expert advice and guidance to clients on economic development issues, including economic policy, innovation, and investment attraction 
  • develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, stakeholders, and partners 
  • mentor and support junior consultants, providing guidance and feedback to help them develop their skills and expertise 
  • contribute to the development of Urban Foresight’s market position and thought leadership in economic development. 

Skills and experience

We are keen to meet candidates from a range of backgrounds. You might be:  

  • an economist, economic development consultant, researcher, or analyst 
  • working in the public sector, third sector, or an NGO in a relevant policy or strategy role 
  • working in engineering, planning or finance with relevant expertise.

The ideal candidate would  have:

  • a university degree in a relevant subject 
  • strong analytical and research skills 
  • relevant experience working with public sector clients at national, regional and local levels 
  • excellent report writing skills, with an ability to clearly summarise complex ideas, offer valuable insights, and compile compelling business cases 
  • knowledge of relevant policies, issues, and investment programmes and their influence on economic development in the UK 
  • experience of bid writing and business development alongside a strong industry profile 
  • excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to prepare and deliver engaging presentations.
