Oliver joined Urban Foresight after graduating from Newcastle University with a BA (Hons) in Human Geography.
He is interested in how energy transition can create new economic opportunities for post-industrial areas. His undergraduate dissertation investigated the potential of mine water energy projects in the North-East, exploring how they could boost the regional economy whilst breathing new life into the historical assets of the region.
Since graduating, he has worked with multi academy trusts on their energy consumption, with the aim of reducing their bills in the short term and getting them to start thinking about how they will meet the 2050 net zero targets.
Through this work, Oliver learned about the UK government’s public sector decarbonisation strategy, and the funding channels available to support the transition. He is keen to continue to use and develop this knowledge to deliver projects that support net zero.
