How can local authorities better exploit their data assets?

Engie commissioned Urban Foresight to work on its Cities Data Asset pilot, a new approach to realising the value of data from a City Region.

Engie is a global energy company that also provides facilities management, maintenance and ICT outsourcing services.

Urban Foresight developed  130 different Use Cases where data and technology could be used to enhance the delivery of local services and infrastructure. This included community engagement, energy, transport, security, health and wellbeing.

Our analysis employed a weighted multi-criteria assessment to identify ten priority activities. This was based on a bespoke scorecard to reflect the priorities and ambitions of Engie and its clients. Factors defined included: the fit with existing value propositions; non-financial benefits; scale of the opportunity; revenue potential; timescales; competition; and complexity.

Detailed business cases were developed for each of the priority use cases which defined the value added to Engie and its customers.

The process involved engagement across different business units in Engie’s global business and interviews with technical partners around the world.

It greatly benefited from Urban Foresight’s broad technical expertise, creative insights and ability to translate complex opportunities into actionable business strategies.
