How will emerging technologies transform manufacturing processes?

Urban Foresight was commissioned by the North East Local Enterprise Partnership (NE LEP) to support the development of the North East Automotive Strategy, focusing on Manufacturing and Process Innovation.

Our work centred on a programme of  market research and consultation with a range of stakeholders from organisations including the University of Sunderland, North East Automotive Alliance and Sunderland City Council.

The objectives of the study were:

  • To identify opportunity areas for new technologies in manufacturing processes in the automotive manufacturing sector.
  • To identify skills needs and barriers to technology adoption and how the Local Enterprise Partnership, the North East Combined Authority and the Centre of Excellence in Sustainable Advanced Manufacturing can support and facilitate this adoption.
  • To define the anticipated benefits to business and business growth in the North East and the UK through increased adoption of new process and manufacturing technology.
