Fleet Revolution® Roadshow in Durham
Urban Foresight has been travelling through County Durham as part of the Fleet Revolution programme, speaking to small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) about the benefits of electric vehicles & savings to be made.
Fleet Revolution is a new programme created to support SMEs registered in the NELEP area to make the switch to electric vehicles. The programme is part of the Go Ultra Low NE initiative led by the North East Joint Transport Committee, with funding from the European Regional Development Fund.
Combining our expertise in electric vehicles and infrastructure with experience working to promote low carbon mobility in rural and remote areas across the UK, we created a mobile roadshow to reach out to businesses in less frequented areas of County Durham.
The roadshow was spread over two days, visiting Newton Aycliffe, Barnard Castle, Chester-le-Street and Stanhope.
Day 1:
Beginning at an Aycliffe Business Park breakfast networking event, Fleet Revolution project manager Callum White had the opportunity to present the programme to businesses, highlighting the benefits of electric vehicles, examples of funding available to SMEs and how Fleet Revolution could help. Lookers Volkswagen provided a new eGolf, allowing attendees to experience an EV in person.
Later in the day, the roadshow moved to Enterprise House at Harmire Business Park in Barnard Castle, and then on to Chester-le-Street city centre, in a Co-wheels fully electric vehicle. Here the team spoke to a number of interested businesses keen to find new solutions to reduce their carbon footprint, from car sharing to electrifying their fleets.
Day 2:
The Fleet Revolution team travelled to the Durham Dales Centre in Stanhope speaking to businesses in the area about the Fleet Revolution programme. There was genuine interest in making electric mobility more practical in a rural area, with visible appetite for more charging infrastructure in and around Weardale.
Fleet Revolution® will run until December 2019 with further events and roadshow planned for later dates. Find out about upcoming events and roadshows via social media on Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook, or contact the team at FleetRev@urbanforesight.org.
