South Dublin County Council’s roadmap for fleet decarbonisation

Decarbonising public sector fleets is a key component in the fight against climate change.

South Dublin County Council has set ambitious targets to reduce the effects of climate change on the region. Its Climate Change Action Plan aims to achieve a 51% reduction in the council’s greenhouse gas emissions by 2030.

To achieve this goal, the council has commissioned Urban Foresight to prepare a fleet decarbonisation plan.

Urban Foresight has a wealth of experience in this field and has worked with multiple public and private sector organisations to help them transition to low-emission fleets. This has delivered significant reductions in carbon emissions, improvements in air quality, and financial savings from lower operating costs.

Our experts will work closely with South Dublin County Council to lower emissions across its fleet and help it reach the ambitious 2030 goals.

The first step will be a detailed review of the existing fleet, considering factors such as energy usage, lifecycle costs, and carbon footprint.

Based on this information, Urban Foresight will make recommendations for transitioning vehicles in the next five and ten years as part of a planned renewal cycle.

Investment scenarios will be benchmarked against current operational activity to determine the financial savings and additional requirements to support the transition. This will include a review of the council’s fleet management system and a gap analysis to identify necessary infrastructure upgrades, process changes, and staff training.

Joshua Gordon, Senior Consultant at Urban Foresight, said, “Decarbonising public sector fleets is a crucial step in the fight against climate change. Urban Foresight is well-equipped to help organisations achieve their climate change goals and we are proud to be working with South Dublin County Council on this important project.”
