Dr Emma Butcher

Emma is a skilled epidemiologist with expertise using evidence-based methodologies to address health inequalities and improve population health.

Before joining Urban Foresight, she worked as a medical writer producing communication materials for different therapy areas and target audiences.

Her strengths include being able to synthesise, interpret and communicate information from a variety of sources and use quantitative, qualitative and review methodologies for detailed analysis.

She holds an MSc and PhD in epidemiology from University College London. Her MSc focused on health inequalities, social determinants of health, and a life course approach to health. While in her PhD she used systematic review and quantitative methods to explore research questions relating to universal newborn hearing screening and childhood hearing loss.

As part of the PhD, she also undertook an internship at the Scottish Parliamentary Information Centre to deliver an evaluation of the Scottish Government health and social care integration policy.
